Keep complaining to the BBC when they're over-generous to RefUK Ltd.
Yesterday, three of the 4 "issues of wide audience concern" on the BBC complaints intro page were already on this topic. And the 4th was about their coverage of Yaxley-Lemon's march on the 13th.
Good work, people!
You'd think they'd take the hint, sooner or later? And that Ofcom will have to express an opinion at some point?
Byline Times deserves a standing ovation just for this: while the BBC is out here workshopping “How To Woo Farage Fans With Costume Drama”, Byline is busy printing the receipts and asking why the national broadcaster looks like it’s auditioning for a GB News spin-off.
Short version: BBC bosses held a meeting, said “let’s rejig the news and drama slate to keep Reform UK happy”, and somehow thought nobody would notice. Byline noticed. Byline printed it. Byline laughed while the BBC blushed.
Praise where it’s due: this is proper journalism, not the kind that asks Nigel Farage if he’d like another pint before slagging off migrants.
Byline Times, making Auntie Beeb look like she’s stuck in a love triangle with Farage and Robbie Gibb.
Yes and did you see Ed Davey biting his lip on the 10 oclock news last night when he was interviewed by Chris Mason who said that Ffarij "lived rent free in LibDems heads"? Davey very nearly bit back, you could see him thinking it, and Chris Mason was worried for a mo...
Absolutely , it’s clear that neither of the two main parties is going to start the pushback . This is up to us !
Farage gets his Monday morning coverage to sour the week . Get those complaints in . We don’t want to & we don’t have to hear him !
He will become ever more extreme in his campaign for votes .. hopefully he will go too far for anyone with an iota of decency , when they realise his targets could be them .
I think the first thing that is needed is for the left to try and sort itself out. There are parts of the Labour Party that feel like Reform-lite on immigration, and I certainly know a few who bang on about benefit cheats. And that's one of the big problems - so much 21st Century politics is about being against things.
One of the hangovers from the Johnson government is the over-reliance on slogans*. Actually life is more nuanced than that, and any party that doesn't understand that shouldn't be in government.
*Obviously 'stop the bots' was such a successful three word slogan, that the current Government has latched on to it. So, yes, slogans can be a problem.
I think the real challenge is that there are some real issues that need to be tackled - immigration, gender, welfare reform, public finance etc - where (wait for it!) we may need to move away from the extremes. We may even need to do some things that some of us would prefer we didn't have to. The challenge is to work that out in advance and not be swayed by the populist rantings of some foaming-at-the-mouth demagogue.
And, of course, the big issue is that a plan to win an election isn't only a small part of the plan, what's important is a plan for running a government*.
*And that plan needs to include serious vetting of everybody involved.
Got to love a Gantt chart, bring it on, Bear. I think I echo many in not having a clue what to do against this wave but I am certain you’re right and the non-fascist sector is, in its nice minding-its-own-business peaceful fashion, hoping it will all go away, but we’re already way behind the curve. Prepare we must.
I have already shared to death that recent doorstep moment with one bloviating recent SA immigrant who had paid for ILR and so felt entitled to say that Farage and Co were not going far enough and that he favoured Lowe and Co. His friend had called him a Nazi, he bleated.
I told him that they would deport me, born and raised locally. For a nanosecond that silenced him. This is the work we need to do.
We’ve dissected your article like it was a dodgy kebab at 3am and what do you know, out popped a complete timeline and a manifesto. Yes, an actual manifesto. Don’t panic, it’s not the kind that ends up on a Tory leaflet covered in clip-art of bulldogs and pound coins. It’s the useful kind.
We’re kind of hoping you’ll find it handy, because unlike most politicians we didn’t just write it on the back of a beer mat while arguing with a Wetherspoons fruit machine. All you need to do is rummage through your inbox, type “Satirical” into the search bar, and bingo, our little anarchist care package should be sitting there waiting for you.
And look, we’re not saying this is the Ten Commandments chiselled on stone tablets. It might just be a scruffy starting point. You probably already have something sharper, meaner, and with fewer coffee stains, in which case, fantastic. But if there’s any trench-digging, rabbit-hole spelunking, or fact-ferreting we can do to help, say the word. We live for this stuff. We love rabbit holes. We love facts. We hate bullshit!
Thanks again for swinging your fists at the bullshit instead of politely asking it to leave.
Yet again dear Bear, you say what the sane of us are thinking. I am horrified at what this country is becoming. I'm 73, so lived through the 70s and the awful racism. I thought we knew better now but fartage has reawakened it. The sight of Muslim families being harassed by KIDS on the street just breaks my heart. Thugs screaming at a facility housing migrant children is abhorrent. The horror of the siekh girl being raped as they told her she doesn't belong here is something no-one should endure.
In USA, many trump voters are now regretting their choice as his cruelty is directly hurting them, but they were happy for him to hurt "others". It looks like those reform members are doing the same, only speaking up when it affects them. I'm happy they are seeing the light but I wish they had seen it earlier.
I'm delighted to find I already follow the people you suggest. Im just sorry I cannot donate. There are so many I admire here on substack but as a pension credit recipient, I just can't. All I can do is like and share and hope that is enough.
Well said and here's hoping that they managed to put off a good amount of would be fans. Hopefully, the people they've put off will be considering the cost of their fuckwit plan, the cost to the NHS, care workers, hospitality workers etc. The NHS would surely collapse, medical insurance would be an absolute must, but, could those on benefits or minimum wage be able to afford it? I think not. There would be no saving only more cost, misery and suffering.
What is English and what is British? As I understand it, English comes from the Anglo Saxons and British from the pre-Roman Britons, an indigenous Celtic people. If that’s right English would mean of Germanic descent and you have a tiny chance of being British if your family have been in Cornwall for the last 2000+ years and have avoided any incomers. As for me, there’s Jewish and Irish and possibly Romani in the last 150 years of my family. So once the immediate “threats” to our island race are gone and they’re looking for more scapegoats, I’m going to be high up the list. (along with 99.999% of the remaining population)
One thing we can do now:
Keep complaining to the BBC when they're over-generous to RefUK Ltd.

Who was the guy who wrote an embarrassingly blushing "report" from the RefUK conference (see here, if you can stomach it - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c62zdpke8kko)
Looks like someone really wants a job as RefUK press officer, doesn't it?
This piece is satire gold plated with Farage-face football kits. Thanks Jacky we are working on this piece for posting today.

P.S. Logic took a gap year, but we didn’t.
Serious about stopping THE authoritarian creep. Because that is exactly what he is, what his rotten limited company is, and yesterday proves it.
A "like" is not enough for this. Thank you for this wake up call. I hope that this message can take wings and fly....it's in our hands.
