Indeed; mine's based on my grandmother's recipe (grocer/butcher family). Layers are as follows:
Fruit in appropriate jelly (orange or strawberry usually)
Trifle sponges doused in sherry and/or spread with jam etc to match the fruit below
Custard
Whipped double cream dotted with cherry pieces, 100s and 1000s, or chocolate shavings (esp for the orange trifle, when a chopped segment or two of someone's Chocolate Orange is excellent)
Perfect for Boxing Day after the cold cuts and salads.
Thanks for ALL your answers Bear but obviously the fact that you gave such a beautiful answer to the one I asked I most happy with because I agree with what you said. I have certain things to say about other answers though:
Trifle with JELLY is most definitely a good thing especially if it's made with the remaining alcoholic liquor that the cake base was soaked in! I actually heard my beloved Mum roll her eyes at what you said & she's not been with us since 1998!
Your EAT THE RICH march has two decent choices of tunes to accompany it. You can pick either Motorheads' one OR th Aerosmith one!
When it comes to the plight of Snow Plough drivers & this is because I used to have a neighbour that was one. He & his other SP driver friends used to have their trucks parked outside their homes & they just waited until the police requested them to be out doing their thing. Granted that was quite a few years ago & up here in Scotland but with council budgeting nowadays I have no idea if this is still the norm.
Finally when it comes to scones I've always held the thinking that if YOU'RE eating eat it whichever way you wish because life is far too short to fight over semantics! 😉
I'm definitely a polar bear. With the exception of California, I am no fan of the heat. Cross as all get out, solitary and permanently pissed off with humanity. Love these Q&As, by the way. I was working remotely today in case of side effects from my flu jab yesterday, so was able to stick a question in when I came up for air at lunchtime. Hope next week goes well for you - or as well as it can at any rate. I have a surfeit of medical appointments and short meetings to break up the paperwork, which will at least vary the workload slightly.
Very enjoyable Bear. I never see your request for questions. Perhaps next time I will. Have a relaxing if chilly weekend and don't forget that we get an extra hour in bed on Sunday morning (fur deamons permitting) x
I didn't know South Africans also had their big Christmas celebration on Christmas eve and then languised over a food comma on the 25th like we do in Spain.
Oh Bear I am so disappointed in you - I couldn’t make it to the end of the questions - I was bought to a shuddering halt - ITS JAM FIRST - ALWAYS. Kernow bys vyken. I’m off to sulk.,..
Bear.
Scones. I need to remind you of my previous post BTL on the subject.
Please study carefully. There will be a test later. I will accept no deviation from this edict :)
"My father’s family owned a bakery.
They were Cornish as is 50% of me.
Cream tea!
The argument is a trivial nonsense.
Doesn’t matter which goes on first provided the jam is solid and the cream is clotted.
If either of those components is sub standard the most stable one goes on first.
If both are weak or runny don’t bother. Blend it all up, make into gloopy blobs and throw at your nearest Reform politician".
Brilliant...I love the idea of Alan Turing being PM and your reasoning for appointment.
Yep- genius!
You are a very wise Bear. And I really love the bear you would like to be - disruptive but no one can be too upset because you are so adorable.
A great mix of questions and, should you ever get that island full of good people, can I live there too, please?
Have a good weekend and do try to get some rest x
Your place is absolutely guaranteed, Suze.

Thank you 😊 And thank you for your support for my Substack 🥹
Following on from my reply ref: scones.
Trifle. My family did patisserie, cakes, desserts etc. They catered events.
Trifle has jelly in it. Holds the fruit in place.

Not so sure about 100s and 100s or jam. And Chocolate Oranges came long after the business folded. The rest brilliant.
The fruit jelly base is IMHO just that and carries the custard and cream. And what is to say that what covers those needs to be prescribed.
😜
