I was working with an American today and their joy was wonderful to behold. They were registered in Texas and got their postal vote in early. But I don't think they ever imagined the results in Texas and across the USA would be that dramatic.
YES! The joy in Texas is huge this morning! I lived down in El Paso, TX for over 30 years, from January of 1975 to August of 2007 when I finally escaped TX. I lived there when Ann Richards was governor and she was AWESOME! But then the Bush family took over and that state went downhill fast and has been just awful ever since then. Now, there is a new Democratic governor as well as this AWESOME new senator James Talarico! TX is getting a huge breath of fresh air coming in!
I think there's been much celebrating around the world. They say karma is a bitch. I look forward to seeing just deserts for the cruelty and corruption of trump and his cronies. It certainly has given me hope.
Today is for hope and for celebrating. Tomorrow may (will) go pear-shaped but for now what's needed is shared joy.
The pleasure of watching images of the blue wave washing over the planet, of cars honking in unison in Texas, of people dancing together in Kansas, hugging on street corners in Ohio, of Canada showing the Niagara Falls lit up in blue, of Europe sighing with relief, and Ukraine saying thank you ... has been immense.
Enduring their crazed, out of control despotic leader has taken a huge toll on Americans (humiliation, fear, anxiety, helplessness). Today has been an outpouring of relief.
If we add the remarkable Dem wins in the US midterms to the overthrow of Orban, and democratic successes in Brazil and Serbia, it's surely not unreasonable to sense real change afoot. Recent events don't feel like just more cases of token push back against oligarchic power. They feel like indicators of real, substantive change, driven by a new younger demographic possessed of a strong moral compass and their phones (which, despite their bad reputation, are also windows on the world and powerful new instruments of democracy).
It's a great result. I am a little concerned though about noises from Dem leaders like Jeffries which seem to suggest they should concentrate on day to day matters rather than pursuing the wrong doers in the current administration. Apart from the fact that they ought to be able to do BOTH, this feels like a grave misreading of the sentiment among voters, who as far as I have seen, want VERY MUCH for there to be a proper reckoning.
I hope the Dems aren't going to let this opportunity slip. Yes, Trump will probably pardon people on his way out the door, but in the meantime, stuff needs to be put on the official record.
Yes, I completely understand why the transition took so long in the past when transport was horses, then steam trains. But nowadays having such a long transition period seems unnecessary and just a potential gap into which shenanigans can be inserted.
I spent the majority of the morning having a artery bypass done on my right leg so I didn't get much of the results until after 1600. So now I'm pain free, well mostly AND quite happy about what's been happening 🥳😘

Amen to that Bear! I hadn't originally planned to stay up all night for the results but as the wins for the Dems kept rolling in I couldn't tear myself away from the TV. It was both astonishing & glorious to behold. Here's hoping the far right parties in France & Germany get the same reception in their upcoming elections.

Last night when all was pretty much said and done, I just sat here and finally cried, I was just so happy we finally made some progress against the sheer evil that has taken over this country over the past decade! I'm not going to be complacent, though! I'm going to hold every corporate Dem's feet to the fire to try to get them to STOP taking that AIPAC money that controls so many of our congress people! My own two Dem senators from my state of WA accept AIPAC money and I'm emailing them every day now to tell them if they want my vote when their reelections come up, they'd better kick the AIPAC dollars to the curb!
Exactly.
The only thing missing from your post was an ending that went something like “Thank you for your attention to this matter” 😂😂😂

I know he can afford it, but it's also satisfying that Elon Musk spent half a billion dollars and still didn't get his own way.
that was the second thing i told my partner when he woke up this morning! :) (the first thing being about the orange one)

It's a fabulous example of the way in which an apparently inviolate power can be tottered by a so-called tsunami.
But I'm keeping the champagne on ice until we see what happens next.
Great post anyway, and it's a fine thing to feel we are on the winning side.

They should start with implementing the positive laws that have been passed which trump really doesn’t like.
Rewind some of the most horrible things like ICE deportations and work on federal abortion legislation,
Epstein prosecutions. Impeachment should for now take second place.
Stop the Iran war and stop the blind support for Israel.
Get rid of the massive tariffs.
Lots of work for them to do.
Unfortunately they can’t start until January and lots can happen in the meantime.
It might become very interesting.

Really happy with this result. It has given me a bit more hope for the future.

Thank you so much Bear!
