There is another concern that I have about the labels used in grammatical terms. As I understand my own main language, an immigrant is someone who migrated from his or her country with the intention of making the UK their permanent residence. A migrant does the same except without the intention of permanence. Our government is busy trying to make it harder to gain permanent residence and that sets up a huge part of our workforce, and their children, to be so badly treated or insecure that they will migrate to a country that welcomes their labour and tax contributions. The UK is almost entirely populated by people descended from immigrant ancestors but historically mainly white. Yet, if we look at our summer habit of sunbathing, we are obsessed with trying to get browner at the same time as many of us spout racist colour prejudice against the races our sun tan tries to emulate. Migration handled properly is a good thing that should be encouraged. In my experience, the work ethic of an immigrant is something our children should be encouraged to acquire.

It was never about the numbers, and always about the vibes. This won't stop until the people feel less angry, and they will never feel less angry, because their leaders win when they feel angry. Take a lesson from MAGA. Restored to power, spearheading one of the most brutal deportation programs in history, they are not satisfied and won't be satisfied.

Somebody should tell the Orange One that Obama deported more and he did it with due legal process, no concemtration camps and masked thugs needed.

It is so disappointing, I had hoped the reduction in numbers would help to calm things so that we can see the need for immigration. Maybe that is what they are afraid of? A calm mind doesn’t tend to be associated with reform voters or certainly their politicians don’t act like they expect that. 😢

ah, but frogface farage HAS to have something to be outraged about, doesn't he?

That's his modus operandi

So it seems. Harness the “hate” and the sky’s not even the limit.

Facts is facts! Well said Bear. This is one my neighbour needs to read.

It might be interesting to learn / understand what the net migration figure is that is in line with the needs to grow the uk population in order to meet our future generations needs? I could look it up but imagine you might know?

I notice that he didn't say ' more than the population of Herefordshire ' where he has his family and very nice mansion, noticeably nowhere near his constituency

I still don't understand why this is a good thing? Isn't something like 60% of NHS staff are foreign nationals? Care workers, tradesmen - plumbers, carpenters, brickies and the like; not to mention University Students and skilled engineers and Service engineers etc. Racism will kill this bloody country. We're British, we've always accepted people - we are a mongrel breed made up of immigrants over millenia! Its wrong to turn away asylum seekers. This argument 'you've got to look after your own house before you open it up to others' is selfish nonsense. Its all a confected drama to justify Brexit that backfired badly. Thanks Bear for this - sending you cooling thoughts!

considering the tory and reform voters in yesterday's yougov poll were more likely to say chicken tikka masala is not a British dish, this is so unsuprising.

Sums it up completely, sadly.

Watfords just a town. Or a borough. You'd expect an Englandphile to know that.

the right NEED something to be angry at, all the time.

It's how they operate - permanent outrage

There’s an additional threat on the horizon which I’m not hearing/seeing mentioned. The world’s climate is heating up, we’re all experiencing it, especially those living n the Southern hemisphere. Where are they going to go when their place on the globe no longer supports human life? My guess is to the Northern hemisphere, so our governments need to start planning now.
