I absolutely despise farage. I can't understand how everything he's said and done seems to go unchallenged by any or all authorities who should be looking into him and his actions and spoutings. He's without doubt a liar, grifter and totally unscrupulous. I'm pretty sure he should be behind bars and not the sort which sells beer.
You're back Bear @bearlypolitics.co.uk!! and our world is better for your wise words. This piece was pure brilliance. I always appreciate how you make sense out of so much confusion when what's going on has neither rhyme nor reason. In a weird and wonderful way it helps that you have such an amazing gift to verbalise and articulate it with such extraordinary eloquence and endearing wit. Big thanks and big hugs 🤗🌻
Thank you Bear 🐻 for all you do, and for your wise words.
We are unbelievably stuffed indeed in the U.K - we have a PM that people chose for Labour leader because we thought he was pro EU, only to quickly realise in 2020 that he was going to do nothing for soft left voters, the union members, the disadvantaged and the pro Europeans.
On the matter of the EU there was only silence.
Instead, who did he choose as the kingmakers?
The least educated (it may not be PC but it’s true) the least informed Leave voters who are least inclined to ever vote Labour.
He and his government have abandoned their base, rewarded people who unequivocally made the WRONG decision with regards to Brexit and done nothing to alleviate poverty and austerity that was the primary CAUSE of Brexit (apart from believing the lies from charlatans, that is).
If - and it’s difficult to believe in “if” any more, we could move as closely as possible to the EU as the EU would allow (after the disgraceful way Tories and Nigel Farage’s lot treated the EU) this would have a positive vision for the future, give us some hope ( because believe me, there is NONE!) and it would be beneficial for the economy.
How much more of a downward spiral 🌀 can ordinary people endure??
And WHEN will the privileged MP’s in their entitled wealthy bubbles with their subsidised meals, heating allowances, large pensions and large salaries (they ARE large salaries compared to what most people have) realise how ludicrously out of touch they are?
And how ANGRY most people are!
And the answer will NEVER be Farage or RW politics - because we ALL have to be ok ( not just the privileged) for society to function.
Can it really be that simple. His message is simple and effective and even normally sensible people have been coopted into this cult. Kemi seems to treat political debate like some sort of rugby tackle and is blinded by trying to bring everyone down by whatever means. How does politics recover from the Boris years and reasoned political debate take the place of this hysterical theatre? Farage keeps a trump (how apt) card in all this, “leave won and to overturn it is to throw democracy away”. Bollocks of course but a powerful message non the less.
I'd prefer to call it the "Brexit tax", as calling it the "Farage tax" gives Farage too much credit for Brexit.
Brexit actually came about because of a fanatical faction of Brexiteers within the Conservative Party, who forced David Cameron to promise a referendum in the 2015 General Election (by threatening to split the party), won that referendum for Leave by whipping up hatred of immigrants, and then similarly coerced Theresa May when she attempted to limit the damage.
“fantasy, slogans and blatant lies told by a band of people who did not know what they were doing.”
Hmmm 🤔
Did Cameron, May & Johnson really not know - or not care? And the Russian money rolling around under Bojo’s pmship?
*We* knew & we were Joe Public. And Starmer knows but still imposed his red lines in the manifesto only last year when there was already evidence that Brexit had failed & couldn’t work. Now we’re in limbo land, having cast ourselves out of our own continent.
It's up to us to make this go lower ..& please Bear🐯when are these Fararge fans going to wake up& smell the Barista? Oh if only the gutter rag press would go on Strike.
Absolutely crystal, and so predictable. Leaving the world’s largest trade block because it’s going to create so much space for independent, brilliant deals - sure! That aligns with every negotiation I’ve ever participated in: weaker and smaller is strength!
Bear, you had me at the same time crying and laughing with this article. When will Labour finally wake up and let the British lion roar?
Untill most of the media admit that Brexit is a total mess and tell Farage to f*ck off we will be stuck with his pontification. Our current government is terrified of a bad headlines in newspapers that will never support any policy that is even vaguely left wing so I have little hope of this happening any time soon. Unfortunately we do not have anybody, at the moment, willing to say this is so because of what these papers might say, owned by people who don`t even bloody live here.

Dare I say it? We told you so. Bollocks to Brexit. Bollocks to Farridge. 🤬
