You’ve hit the nail well and truly on the head. Again. I’m starting to lose track of the number of times the phrase “Nobody voted for mass migration” has appeared on social media recently, and you’re perfectly right - it blames everyone and no one whilst absolving them of any responsibility for the mess.

Another fantastic article Bear; rest assured that I’ll be sharing this piece with as many of my likeminded friends as possible.

Yup, spot on yet again! I’m so tired and frustrated listening to people parroting what they hear on the “news” or in certain newspapers. I share your words with as many people as I can.

Oh Bear 🐻, absolutely 100% correct! I'm sick of copying and pasting the gov.uk website link showing how much , or should I say, how little, people get from government as immigrants. We are all descended from immigrants somewhere along the line, as shown by our variety of skin, eye and hair colours, plus remnants of Roman villas, viking artifacts, French, Latin, Greek( etc) words in our language. Being from Liverpool, I love the mix of cultures, it makes life really interesting! You put it so much better than I do. Yet again another wonderful, thoughtful, measured argument which I've shared 👏. I do love you so much dear Bear 🐻 xxxxxxxxx ❤️

"Like arsonists insisting the fire was started by foreign matches." and "They’re here to livestream its collapse and ask for donations.". Excellent work. Your writing is getting better and better. Accurate, punchy and passionate. Keep going!

Totally agree with your analysis, Bear, especially with regard to a) the lies about, and b) the results of Brexit. Give the Lib Dems their due, they do tell it like it is, who's listening?

If blaming the general shitty state of Britain on immigrants is deluded right-wing populism, isn't blaming it on "austerity, outsourcing, deregulation and corporate greed" not just deluded LEFT-wing populism?

The REAL reason why we seem to be paying high taxes and getting poor public services in return is most likely just because so much of the money is going on pensions, health care and social care for the baby boomer generation, far in excess (thanks to the political power that their demographic bulk gave them) of what they contributed during their working lives.

Blaming Boomers is itself just scapegoating. Boom!

A glance at your Substack profile suggests you think we can just borrow more and more money without limit: doesn't the way the international financial markets made Liz Truss our shortest-lived ever prime minister (and later forced Trump to back down on his most egregiously high tariffs) suggest otherwise?

The BoE announced a program of QT that same weekend. That's what spooked the markets, not Truss, though obvs that wouldn't encourage potential investors. Selling bonds is just an asset swap, by the way, non-interest bearing govt IOUs (money) are exchanged for interest bearing govt IOUs (gilts). It's real function is ameliorating inflation.
