That's a most interesting and frankly dystopian analysis Claire. The nightmare started I think when the Supreme Court ruled that the President is above the law when he hold the office. Once that happened, Trump was able to simply ignore the constitution without peril.

Unfortunately, ICE are only the storm troopers. The Gestapo is yet to come - possibly a "reformed" FBI, but if not, another detective force. They will be far worse, and more secretive, making it harder to combat their illegal actions.

It's impossible to tell right now whether the US administration is building a fortress or a pack of cards. Everything hangs on the continuing courage of ordinary people, on Republican leaders finding their backbones, and on just how audacious the administration are with electoral dishonesty. It's an existential cliff hanger, for sure ...
