Thanks Bear. I cannot imagine how the Nowak family come to terms with what has happened.

As always, Bear, you've articulated the frustrated disgust I feel towards Nigel Farage and his ilk. Thank you.

Nigel Farage is a rabble rouser.

And when a rabble consorts to vent their anger violence will ensue.

He is as always self centred and without scruples. With not a thought to real victims rather than his fantastical creation of the oppressed white male.

He is a low creature.

It strikes me that there is another division in the country. One that might be an illusion but does have a basis, that might be eroding. That is the difference between those of us lucky enough to live in parts of the Union that are mostly law abiding and quiet..ish. And those that live in highly populated areas with more deprivation and social problems where violence and petty crime are more obvious.

Traditionally people in the safer areas get their knickers in a twist about crime even if there is very little, as they do about ‘immigrants’ and people of colour when numbers are very low or non-existent.

For twenty years I lived in a small town in whose high street were two pubs, opposite each other. For some reason the customers of these hostelries were sworn enemies. As an incomer I never knew how it started. On Saturday nights these good folk would beat the shit out of each other in the street between the two pubs. Walking the dogs on a Sunday morning you had to skirt around the broken glass from bottles and there was blood on the pavement. I kid you not.

As time went on and the police station became defunct Bristol would send down a van full of coppers and park in the square on a Saturday night!

The rest of the time nothing happened.

Here by the sea we have a much bigger population with thousands of tourists (day and long stay). This year we’ve had fighting on the beach and multiple incidents involving the police. There are dog walking places that I avoid in the evening due to the behaviour of groups of drinkers out and about. And I have never been intimidated in the past.

Our police station has also been closed.

It’s been heart warming to see the vast numbers of resources employed against peaceful protestors and safeguarding right wing agitators. And to listen to shopkeepers on the radio talking about how the police fail to deal with organised shoplifting gangs.

We certainly have our priorities muddled. People like Farage and Robinson no doubt contribute to the disaffection and entitlement that prompts and allows antisocial behaviour.

Thank you Bear. The Nowak family made a dignified statement, something which Farage completely disrespected

I find his complete lack of respect for a grieving family to be utterly abhorrent, but also showing he is not fit to be anywhere near power

My thoughts are with the Nowak family

Thank you for this. What happened was a tragedy of epic proportions and the failures of the police are horrific. You are right we can and should be appalled by what happened but to make it into the incitement of hatred and violence is beyond words.

Farage and his supporters/puppet masters should be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately he will get away with it without even trying to take responsibility for what happened and blame it all on the politicians and the police.

He is not offering any solutions or even a path forward to find solutions to a policing system that is having serious problems. They are wide ranging and complex but people like Farage don’t do complex. Their audience and followers don’t like complex either and that is why he gets away with it and manages to get such a following.
