The commercial world regards data as an asset. Without regulation they or at least a fair proportion of them will exploit the resource for commercial gain if robust restrictions are not in place.
That is before we consider the other actors who will be keen to exploit data for their own dubious ends.
Once again Reform reveal themselves to be on the side of corrupt or illegal practice. Must be a bung in it for them somewhere.
At the risk of seeming a weapons-grade pedant, which I am, New Zealand isn't "an island", although it is an island country. It's two (relatively) big islands and many smaller ones. We could wish that they had come up with English names more exciting than "North Island" and "South Island", but they didn't.
Morning Bear, contrary to your opening statement I find GDPR fascinating and am glad that it exists.
Totally agree that it can sometimes be infuriatingly complex but oh so necessary especially with all the data mining and manipulation going on. As a Data specialist I know too much about how individual data is used and abused by big corporations and governments. They will be the beneficiaries of mucking about with GDPR. If anything I would probably argue for stricter regulation around one’s personal data given the invasive use of AI.
Agreed that the guidance could be made more accessible and clearer.
I would genuinely like to see legislation changes to reduce the GDPR burden for Wolverhampton Dave’s Software Emporium, but I agree that Reform's plan isn't the answer.
At the moment, many small organisations appear to ignore GDPR because it's too difficult. Perhaps reducing the requirements for small businesses and non-profits which hold data about fewer than 500 data subjects would be desirable, and a genuine Brexit benefit (which, let's face it, have been pretty limited so far).

As usual though, it was well worth the read,and because of your straight forward and unboring way of explaining(even if no stockings and sussies were involved), I now know a lot more than I did before! I'll save this, so I can refer to it when I need to, when Reform do their usual cover up story leaving out their no doubt dubious intentions.
