Farage’s grand anti-scrutiny stunt now has Count Binface, Laurence Fox, far-right oddities and the potential to become the weirdest by-election in British history.
It's all a pity. If it had just been Farage vs Binface, Binface might have won.
As it is, the local fascists will all support Farage, the other rightwing candidates (even the one with the foreign fascist forename) will lose their deposits, and the anti-fascist vote will be badly split. Farage will win again, and will claim it to be an anti-establishment success.
So the question is: has Farage used some of his £5m to put up the deposits for the oddball candidates so that he will win decisively? I think we should be told.
I was tempted to ask what would happen if nobody in Clacton turned up to vote? To me, that would be perfect! However, I then realised that those standing also get to vote, so they are all guaranteed at least one, sadly.
Presumably, the 'British' nature of the 'Democratic' party gives them a right to credibility that any 'English' one wouldn't, as the Britons were at least here before the Germanic Angles.
It is excellent, though, to be able to watch Newnight clips (another programme spoiled by Reform attendees) with lots of support for the Count!
So now has to chose between a man who almost single handedly managed to destroy our future within the EU, an actor that was once respected before he discovered racial bigotry and a bucket with a hole of unknown political relevance. Great choice for Clacton and none of them will make a positive improvement of political debate in Parliament. If it costs Clacton council anything at all, they should sue the resigned member who will presumably win a parliamentary pension right as well?
I'm assuming young Kai is the teenage illegitimate offspring of David Mellor? It's nice that his dad got him that lovely posh suit for his recent 14th birthday but the poor, scared-looking kid would probably have preferred a PlayStation or a tracksuit.
I see Farage has also gone full DARVO now that his first ploy has backfired and is claiming he won't get a fair hearing from the Standards Committee. I was worried that there might be some 'cold hard rage' from his followers (sorry suckers) if he lost the by-election, I expect we can anticipate the same if/when he is found guilty. What a vile waste of oxygen. Keep up the good work Bear!
Bear this is the most informative, witty, honest piece of journalism about the Farage charade I have read. Thank you. I hope you are well and not too affected by the high temperatures.
I have a question which you might be able to answer. I know what is likely to happen to the investigation into Farages’s £5m undeclared gift ,for want of a better word , if he wins and becomes an MP again. But no one seems to know if the investigation will continue if he loses. Does it become a criminal matter? Will the police be asked to investigate? Surely the public have a right to know. Or don’t we?
As far as I know, the Parliamentary Standards enquiry is paused while the clown show plays out, and if Frogface gets re-elected, it picks up where it left off. FF thinks that being re-elected means he will no longer have to declare the £5M bung - but the enquiry isn't into the actual donation, but the fact that he didn't declare it when he should have.
The banks passing Suspicious Activity Reports to the police is a whole different kettle of fish, as this brings up the spectre of money-laundering, which is criminal, not Parliamentary.
It won't matter if the Frog gets re-elected to Parliament or runs away to join the circus - this investigation won't be paused.
From what I have read the investigation into the £5m will pick up where they left off if he wins. Win or not it will not stop the plods looking at various other allegations regarding money laundering and other iffy financial dealing.
Let's not forget that the only reason Fox didn't stand in the 2024 Mayoral election was that he doesn't understand how to fill in a form.
The good people of Clacton really need to all turn out and deliver a resounding ‘None of the Above’ result
This bunch are turning the honest voters of Clacton into a laughing stock. What an insult?
Clacton elected Farage
Has Kai Stephens got permission to be away from school?
He Does look a tad - Young?
Campaigning will give him something to do while he waits for his A level results.
The chap with the bin over his head—doesn’t he worry about frying his brain in this hot weather?
I’d say he’d be long past that worry but I enjoyed watching a clip of him on Newsnight 😂

Only if they're on the electoral roll for Clacton which I rather doubt.

Stephen’s pic looks like it’s from the Ladybird Book of Wartime Spivs, to me. I almost feel sorry for Clacton 😳
Almost.

Kai’s not exactly a street fighting Brownshirt is he?
