I'm relieved Hannah Spencer defeated the truly awful Matt Goodwin, though it's disappointing he came in second place. Just hope Labour take the hint & start behaving like the socialist government they're meant to be. Take care of yourself Bear & make the most of the sunshine & scrumptious food.
This will hopefully inform Labour’s future direction. Along with the airing of the brilliant Dirty Business, people may finally be waking up to the idea that each and everyone one of has the power and the agency to hold billionaires and bankers (and those who throw themselves at their feet) to account.
Bear. Hope you are ok. Good to hear from you. I would agree that the immigration stuff doesn't work everywhere. Having had a sleepless night and heard the winners speech - she nailed it. She made it clear why she is there and it is clear why people voted for them, low wages, inequality and the unfairness that society presents.
Just look at how Labour has dealt with the student loans issue. The tin eared approach to the injustice is unbelievable. Gaza is obviously the other underlying issue.
Unfortunately Starmer and Reeves are out of touch and time. Unless there is a change, I can't see how Labour can win the next election.
Hannah Spencer's win is a beacon of hope in dark times. Hopefully more beacons will be lit. I had such great hopes for Labour, but they have consistently disappointed with their inhumane petty policies towards refugees and their latest punch at the Waspi women has finally extinguished that.
Delighted with the result, but if traditional 2 party politics really is a thing of the past it means the British are going to have to learn to work together and form collations. Also maybe look again at proportional representation. Neither of those have worked too well in the past, but without that shift all I see is chaos.
Dear Bear, good morning. I check in online in the morning for the headlines, hoping for positive news and it rarely comes. Today is a good day. Put in simple terms, it’s a triumph of good over evil. Best wishes.
Good food, hot sun, even if the circumstaces are not the best,I am envious.
Hannah and the greens stand for something this country wants and desperately needs, hope for a brighter future. They did a fantastic job of getting that message accross. Huge congratulations to Hannah and the rest of the Greens.
However, you are correct, this was a by election, which by their very nature tend to play out differently to national elections. The result will not change the nature of parliament, it mearly increases the Greens parliamentary presence to 5 MPs. However it does demonstrate that the larger parties may be trying to direct the country in a direction the people dont want.
Labour won the last GE, not because of any policies they may have questionable dangled in front of the voters, but because the voters wanted rid of the tories and their continuous right shift and divisive politics.
The next GE may play out the same, but with Labour being the ones people want rid of.
Between now and then, I am sure that Zack, Hannah and the rest of the Greens will be working hard to grow the seeds sown in this election grow to put themselves in the best position to capitalise on Labours foot shooting.
Who knows Labour might make a few changes before then.
Personally, I cannot see this country surviving another 5 years of right wing politics from the next GE. Something has to change, either Labour shifting back to the left, or Greens (the latter being my preferance).
Take care Bear, enjoy the sun, the heat, and of course the food.

I’ve not seen Labour do socialism for a long time.,
A great day for the Greens, and maybe a turning point for the country. Thank you Bear x

Anyone but Reform. Always!
Enjoy the sun and all those other things I can't pronounce or spell

Fancy me hearing the news that the Greens won, from South Africa! Brilliant news!
Please have a stukkie biltong for me, I haven't found a decent source to buy it here! Hope all is as well as can be, Bear!

Thanks Bear, couldn’t have expressed the joy in my heart any better myself. A sign that sanity might be returning to this country.
