An election-day appeal from across the Atlantic. Please sort yourselves out. We don’t get a ballot, but we do get the bill, and we can’t afford it any more
Trump's greatest success has been to become the fulcrum for all the debased obsessives who inhabit the public domain in the US.
With a report on 'Ive Had It' on YouTube last night that Trump is contemplating using a nuclear weapon to wipe the mountain where Iran houses their nuclear facility off the face of the earth, at the behest of Netanyahu, regardless of the mid term results we are facing a crisis of a different order entirely.
If that takes place it will give licence to Putin to use a tactical nuclear weapon on Ukraine. And then the gates of hell will open.
I'm generally of the mindset that things can be worked out, not perfectly but solutions can be found.
In Trump, Putin and Netanyahu there are three leaders, all with their fingers on the controls of nuclear weapons who psychologically have more in common with the likes of Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, Mussolini and the whole cast of 20th Century horrors. All focussed on their own deviant ends. There can methinks be no compromise with them.
Not one of them giving a moments consideration to the lives of ordinary people who are not just expendable. As their existence is barely acknowledged.
These elections may be the last time the people of the US have it within their grasp to turn the tide.
'Tis almost enough for me to find solace in religion. I guess the bottle will have to do.
I can’t say the prospect fills me with joy. Essentially there is a huge gap between what is happening and what we know. Putting aside rumours and the hysteria of the wider web there is enough to cause real concern.
When Wes Streeting smiles at the camera and chats about how he is stocking up a bit I can’t help but be suspicious.
Climate change, wars, lunatic leaders and a bunch of bad actors in all sorts of spheres is enough to turn one grey. If I wasn’t there already.
This is the first I have heard of this, and it is Armageddon on a 21st Century scale, truly terrifying. The End of the World As We Know It, to quote the band. Just horrific. My only hope is that ordinary American citizens can see what is happening and cast their vote accordingly.
This, with bells on. Being a powerless spectator while Orange Mussolini sets fire to the world is truly frightening. Really hoping this is the beginning of the end for the most corrupt president in history, knowing that we all pay for the destruction he has unleashed for years to come.
Well said Bear. I'm pinning my hopes on the fact that the vast majority of Americans are normal people who are sick and tired of the madness which has spiraled out of control in the last 2 years. It can't just be us can it?
Given the news that Trump is planning to start a nuclear war by dropping one on Iran (not for the first time) let's hope that the mid terms give someone the power to stop him shall we?
Excellent piece. Hoping for the much talked about “blue wave” here. I’ve followed US politics for over 40 years now and have friends there. They say this has been by far the dirtiest campaign they remember.
Whilst a Dem controlled Congress, if it happens!, will put some breaks on (the money to fund Trump’s excesses) and lead to investigations and the beginning of some normalcy, I’m afraid I believe the US cannot be relied on to lead the free world as it once did.
Also, I fear the period between these elections and the swearing in of the new Congress on Jan 3rd. I fear it will make Jan 6th 2021 look like a mere preamble to something much darker.
Why, just why the heck did our government agree to a 25% price hike on medications? Was that because Donny boy doesn't understand why we pay so much less than USians for our meds? He is insanely jealous of our NHS while simultaneously decrying any notion of universal healthcare for USA. I recall him ranting about the differing cost of meds but of course he is quite happy at the obscene levels of profit in their system, which is the actual reason for the difference.
I am hoping these midterms do change the balance of power. I also cross my fingers that the bloated orange cockwomble will actually accept the result as the republicans are doing their utmost to prevent voting. Do they not understand that blocking people from voting can also stop republican votes?
I'm going to post two replies. One in the spirit of much needed flippancy. The second more serious.
"slightly sweary homosexual immigrant".
Here is me imagining that you toned down your expletive ratio for your posts.
Strangely I've long had an image of you fulminating over your keyboard, barely visible through a cloud of invective. Possibly wearing a fez and a long Victorian robe like a character out of Dickens with your cat entwined in your legs.
And what did Trump do on the eve of the Midterms, he somehow got a reduction in US ‘gas’ prices and then started bombing Iran again. Defies belief.

I can't bring myself to 'like' what you have said.
It's unbelievable that it's true, but, terrifyingly, it's true.
I can’t say the prospect fills me with joy. Essentially there is a huge gap between what is happening and what we know. Putting aside rumours and the hysteria of the wider web there is enough to cause real concern.

Fingers crossed 🤞

I sincerely hope I’m wrong.

So basically: Fuck Trump and his fascist enablers . . . . . Just saying.
Good morning Bear.

Prove me wrong.
As ever 🐻 you put it all into perspective for me. Thank you
And a fourth of the checks and balances should be the old media but they've been threatened into submission.
100% with you Bear.
Haven't been able to sell ANYTHING to the USA for 2 years, and I miss seeing my American friends so much!
