How do I contact you for a free pay wall, as I'm elderly, not really tech savvy and on Pension Credit. I love your articles, but my finances are tight, especially as I now need more care due to seizures and a stroke.
Bear is a kind soul who is helping some of us out. He keeps us sane amongst other things and he writes beautifully. Keep well - life is often pretty tough for us ‘oldies’ x
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your Substack. I’d love to subscribe, but I’m currently off work due to a heart condition and only receiving SSP. I’ve had to start using my savings to cover rent—savings that were meant for a house deposit—so I’m not in a position to pay for subscriptions at the moment.
I hope to support your work properly once things settle down. In the meantime, please know your writing is really appreciated.
Re the poll question ‘what would you like to read more of?’ I ticked first one but happily read whatever you chose to write about, 2nd choice would have been ‘satire/humorous’.
I really look forward to reading any type of post you write. Your writing is clear, insightful, thoughtful and just so rational that I want to send your posts to Keir Starmer and co with a note saying this is really good - please read and take in. Keep it up!
You asked in the poll about what topic we would prefer to see in your essays. From my point of view the diversity is key to the freshness of the essays.
You write as a real human being with all the frustrations and concerns we are all feeling and your writing about some aspects of your personal life brings your humanity into sharp focus. Many writers try to project an image. You are yourself.
It’s very reassuring to know that. I feel I can trust what you say.
Just like to add that I enjoy the personal reflection/storytelling but it works best in service of a wider point. It's part of being engaging and illustrating your points but it's the politics that keeps me coming back.
Bear as a pensioner I like the generous free subscription offer. There are a good many sub-stack accounts thatI would like to subscribe too.
Trouble is although the monthly prices seem doable, add up 10 @ £4 a pop and that is a lot of groceries even at Lidl! I appreciate people are trying to boost their incomes in difficult times. We all have get by though.
As to what you write I like all the categories, so follow your nose and get on the sent of whichever honey tempts you.
I may not comment often (I don't always have the spoons), but I enjoy all of your writing, whether ranty, erudite, silly or reflective. You've got a rare gift for all of the above, sometimes within the same post. Thank you, Bear.
You make me feel like i am not the only one screaming into the void. Love your writing style and wit.
Same here.

Whatever you write, whatever the subject, I love your talent for writing.

Hi, I will renew my subscription, I have a new credit card. Haven’t been able read many of your posts due to a family illness/death.

Exactly what I said on a thread! 👏🏻
Love your style, your knowledge, and your warmth.

I love all your posts Bear which are helping to keep me sane and are stopping me from howling at the moon!!!
Love your content Bear, but you know that! 😊
Re: subject matter, my second would’ve been misinformation. Love your articles and all your writings. Thank you.
